Sirifara Aid Post: Restoring Access to Healthcare After 40 Years

Location: Sirifara Village, Tufi, Northern Province, Papua New Guinea. Aid Post Built: 2022–2023

Hospital Beds Delivered: November 2025

A Community Without Healthcare for Four Decades

For over 40 years, the remote coastal village of Sirifara in Papua New Guinea’s Northern Province lived without access to basic healthcare services.

In 2022, the community took a bold and self-driven step — constructing their own Aid Post. By 2023, the facility was completed, marking a powerful milestone in their journey toward accessible healthcare.

However, without beds, equipment, and medical supplies, the facility could not operate.

A Call for Support

Recognising the urgent need, Councilor Robin Safitoa, President of Tufi Local Level Government, approached Olgeta Foundation with a heartfelt request to help equip the Aid Post.

Serving approximately 5,000 people across Sirifara and surrounding wards, the facility represents a critical lifeline for the region.

A Partnership for Impact

To support this initiative, Olgeta Foundation partnered with Someone Who Cares Foundation, a Brisbane-based organisation led by Del Cole.

This collaboration brought together shared values and practical capabilities — enabling the sourcing, coordination, and delivery of essential healthcare equipment.

From Request to Delivery

While coordination began in early 2024, the realities of logistics, transport, and remote delivery required time, persistence, and careful planning.

In November 2025, hospital beds were successfully delivered — transforming the Aid Post from an empty building into a functioning healthcare facility.

A message from Councillor Robin Safitoa reflects the importance of this milestone:

“I’ve already sighted the beds, and arrangements are underway to transport them to Sirifara Aid Post. I would like to thank you and Craig, together with the Olgeta Foundation and Someone Who Cares, for your generous donations. I look forward to collaborating on health services and other essential support in this part of Papua New Guinea. Greatly appreciated.”

Impact

The delivery of hospital beds represents a major step forward for Sirifara:

  • Enabling the Aid Post to begin operating

  • Improving access to basic healthcare services

  • Supporting approximately 5,000 people in the region

  • Strengthening long-term health outcomes for the community

More Than Infrastructure

This project is not only about equipment — it is about restoring access, dignity, and opportunity.

It demonstrates the power of:

  • Community-led action

  • Strong local leadership

  • Meaningful partnerships across borders

Looking Ahead

With the delivery of hospital beds, the Sirifara Aid Post is now positioned to serve its community.

This is not the end of our work.Olgeta Foundation will continue to support Sirifara through ongoing collaboration, strengthening healthcare services and responding to the evolving needs of the community.

We remain committed to walking alongside the people of Sirifara — ensuring that access to basic healthcare continues to grow and improve over time.
